A Busy Mom's Realistic Cleaning Routine

Updated: Feb 14, 2020

Let's face it, keeping your home tidy while young kids roam freely can feel a bit like shoveling during a blizzard. It is constant and it never ends!!

After nearly a decade of trying to do everything every. single. day. I have simplified significantly. It has saved my sanity! So here we go, my top FIVE tips for staying on top of your housework.

1. Make Your Bed

Every day, no matter what, make your bed. It may seem small but it makes the biggest difference I promise! If you can't commit to doing the small things, how are you ever going to do the big things? Also, if it's beautiful and made you won't be tempted to climb back into it.

2. Take Out The Trash

I don't know about you, but our family of seven can produce garbage! Every morning I'll take a small bag and gather all of the trash in the house. Candy wrappers, used tissues, school papers, all of it. I then empty every trash can and it's crazy the difference this makes at our house. See ya later, stinky diapers!

3. Do Your Laundry

Do at least one load of laundry everyday and empty all laundry hampers into laundry room. This helps you to not fall too far behind and again isolates that stink! How and why do we have so many clothes??

4. High Traffic Area Floors

The areas in our house that see the most action are definitely the kitchen, dining room, living room, entry way, and hallway. So many little feet, crumbs, and scraps all of the time! At least once a day do a quick sweep and vacuum of those most high traffic spaces.

5. Always Go To Bed With An Empty Sink

This one simple tip is my holy grail to be a happy mama! Rinse and load dishes as you use them throughout the day and then wipe that puppy down before calling it quits for the day. When you wake up to a sparkling, empty kitchen sink you feel like you can conquer the world. Also, NO ONE wants to wake up in the morning and already be behind from yesterday's messes.

BONUS TIP: Five Minute Reset

After those sweet little tornadoes are tucked in for the night, take five minutes to reset your main living areas. Clear off counters, tabletops, couches, and floors. Staying on top of the chaos is my secret weapon for a clean, less stress home!
